I am not sure why any of you would touch WILD RIDE's mom since she strikes me as the kind of mom to give her son WILD RIDEs

Eggman of the Strata
Hooray only the True Ending left in 999. I can kind of see where the story is going and yeah, it does involve some crazy science.

haha schala YOUR MOM didn't teach you no manners~

I'm mad that you liked a game I liked.

999 seems pretty good from the demo. The presentation reminds me of old Resident Evil.

999 showed up before the holiday weekend yessssssssssss

Hooray

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...312731&SID=

Sin & Punishment 2 is $16 with free shipping from newegg. Get it while it lasts.
Axem Rangers
really if you don't own it already why did you bother buying a wii
chotto kiitena
i don't own it already

and newegg doesn't ship here so
Axem Rangers
dude fuck you I only days ago saw the NMH2 AU preorder bonus

I would have seriously payed you to get the game so I could have the shirt sad.gif
chotto kiitena
well if it's any consolation I didn't get it either because I imported the game sad.gif

given game prices here you'd probably be paying like $90-100 + shipping so that'd be a pretty expensive shirt anyway
Eggman of the Strata
Wow, true ending to 999 is really long but it's pretty awesome and really ties everything from the game together, including playing it over and over again.
chotto kiitena
So they pulled an Eternal Darkness, huh
Eggman of the Strata
Sort of, except it even ties in the fact that you're playing a game on two screens. I don't want to say anything more than that. It's a really amazing ending though.

So it's like the Higurashi of games?
Eggman of the Strata
I don't even know what that is but it's probably an insult to 999 to compare it.

Recettear is on sale on Steam as part of the Indie Story Pack. $5 for the pack which includes Gish, And Yet It Moves, Jolly Rover, Puzzle Agent and Recettear. Recettear by itself is normally $20.

Oh, also Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is $22.99 on amazon today. It came out...last week? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BE6OY...;pf_rd_i=507846

Ridiculous.
Jadin
oo bought that indie pack

Pretty sure different things happen each time in 999
Eggman of the Strata
Yeah all of the paths are different and go to different places.

Guys, after playing a little Donky Kong Country Returns... am I the only one who thinks DKC as a franchise is fucking awful? Like yeah okay when I was a kid that was some revelatory shit, I suppose, but now? I see a hideous game with awful, clumsy level design, the first hints of the modern Nightmare Collectathon, really, super fucking awesome music, and gross graphic design that's aged like the nazi dude who drank from the wrong cup in Last Crusade.

Basically what I want to know is uh why don't people talk more often about what a fucking amazing game Jungle Beat was? Because wow was that game something

I've been saying that for years. Music aside, there really isn't anything particularly good about it. Granted, the only one I played extensively as a kid was the second Game Boy one, but I liked it plenty back then.

It's funny cos the only other DKCR review I've seen (the Gametrailers one, I think) spent half the review going on about how fantastic the level design was.

I'm playing through a world a night (at least so far), I've done the first three and I thought they were fantastic. And I don't even enjoy platformers that much these days (didn't like either NSMB at all), but there's just something about this game that makes it a lot of fun somehow. As I said I think I still liked DKC2 better and some aspects of DKCR feel a little soulless ("Jungle", "Beach", "Cave", etc) but honestly this is the first time I've really enjoyed a platformer in years.

edit: or are you talking about the original games? No way, I still think DKC2 and to a lesser extent 3 are the best platformers ever. I actually fired up DKC2 on the virtual console after I got through the first world in DKCR to confirm it wasn't just rose coloured glasses and nope, it's still fantastic.

edit edit: also the collectathon stuff in DKC2/3 owned because of the bonus rooms and I won't hear a word otherwise
One Niceass Individual
DKC2 is fantastic. DKC3 isnt bad either but uhhhh i want to jump on reptoid heads and climb ropes not play Simon 15 times just to get 105% completion

Collectathon bullshit was still okay in games like DKC2 and SM64. Banjo Kazooie is probably the last game where it was tolerable
Axem Rangers

but I'm working on saving his soul and showing him the light of Jesus K.Rist
Mazrim
Jet Force Gemini was okay in the collectathon sense because it introduced new areas and new levels to do said collecting, so it wasn't DK64 levels of bullshit.

Plus it's really fun to play and has some of the best music on the N64.

Also I love DKC2 but DKC3 and DKC1 are just shitty I'm sorry.

My first playthrough of 999 was REALLY fucking intense, probably because I happened to be playing it in a dark room at 3 AM.

Working on my second playthrough now. Very engrossing, though with one or two exceptions the puzzles haven't been terribly difficult so far.
Eggman of the Strata
They never get especially difficult or anything. Just interesting. Which ending was it number-wise?
sir nabsalot
The first game in the series was an amazing graphical leap forward in its day. You'd play through the whole game just to see it all. In that context collectathons make sense, as do easy puzzles, since what you're really paying attention to is the eye candy. DKC2 was a great sequel that improved every aspect of the game, but after that, the novelty that was at the core of the franchise was starting to wear off. By 3, they couldn't lean on their graphics anymore to compensate, but they didn't really have much idea where to take shit either, so I remember it being a pretty blah experience, and never bothered to play another one (the gameboy ones were hideous, lord).

Yeah agreed. JFJ kinda woke people up to Rare's shenanigans, and by DK64 everybody's like, fuck you people.
chotto kiitena
I never finished JFJ because of the forced collecting (it was good otherwise), never finished DK64 because of the forced arcade games and never finished SFA because of the stupid last boss. I think around that era is largely where Rare jumped the shark.

they look good but everyone is so ugly

Star Fox Adventures was okay but the combat system was just "mash A" iirc

JFG I never beat because I sucked at it but I liked the action-slanted orientation and level structuring, and when you had to start collecting ship parts the game opened up in a way that felt really liberating at the time. So it was exciting, and the gameplay was a happy medium between "stuff like goldeneye" and "stuff like banjo-kazooie" for me.
Tropical Pallete
I've never cared for the Donkey Kong Country series (even 2) and I'm still looking forward to playing Donkey Kong Country Returns one day. Always loved the music, though. And what little I played of Jungle Beat was really fun.

I noticed that Banjo-Tooie has yet to be mentioned in this conversation about Rare. Let's keep it that way.
chotto kiitena
Well good job mentioning it then, hot shot btns.gif
Eggman of the Strata
I really enjoy DKCR but the one thing that bugs me is that the banana coins are too plentiful. Or the keys to unlock the special stages are too cheap. One of the two. Also Cranky doesn't complain enough. I'm in World 4 though and it's really fun.

2. (Coffin end)

I just got my second ending (Submarine end) and jesus christ is every ending in this game this depressing? This is a fun game but god damn. I'll assume that the "True" ending will be some shade of a happy ending, though.

At 7PM today I was prompted to insert disc 2.

have fun hitting "A" for an hour straight while the game feeds you approximately 2 minutes of plot stretched out into a college thesis paper's length

(actually i'm hoping the new one isn't like that)

I'm hoping it isn't like that either, but I did still enjoy the original Golden Sun for whatever reason (young and naive?) so I'm going to give this one a shot.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a good game. Played the first two worlds on Co-op it was pretty fun. DKC 1 and 2 were good games also. I've never played 3 though it doesn't look as good as the others. So sad that Rare makes Wii Sports rip offs these days.
Eggman of the Strata
Part of me really wanted to like Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts and that part of me actually wants to finish the game. But every other part of me just wishes it was a regular platformer and not basically a racer with some crap to collect.

I hate to warn you but it is.

At first I thought it was metahumor since only the returning characters were blabbermouths, but then the kids got out of their shadows and OH LOOK NOBODY SHUTS UP NOW.

Good. They have multiple years worth of cliffhangers to work through and I want answers. Multiple times. And people act like the original two games didn't have a lot of text. They do. No one cared then.

Although lol at 1up's review saying that the first two games were "ugly" and the entire review basically reading like, "This game is terrible. It has a lot of really annoying problems, all of which stem from the fact that it's an RPG and it's doing what it's supposed to be doing. Fans of the series will enjoy it, but basically everything I said at the beginning of the review means that I think the fans are dumb for liking the original games. B." What.

Yeah this sounds like GT5 reviews so far.

"Well it's a racing game and I don't like racing games but it's the best one out there but I still hate it because I can't play burnout or the new NFS so I'm gonna give it a 4 out of 5 but only because it's the best racing game out there, too bad it's a racing game *sigh*"
Eggman of the Strata
Oh so you read IGN's review of it.

"How dare this game be for fans of racing simulations. Why aren't the AI cars swerving around the track to get out of my way and trying to follow proper racing lines? This racing game is perfect but it doesn't have any innovation so it's terrible! 8.5."
