So I'm posting this rather than PMing everyone given that the project was so huge: In The Groove 2 just got an upgrade letting you play your own songs on the machine from a USB drive. VJAMix: Happy Sky is actually really fun to play on a pad, I learned earlier today for the first time. But the problem is this: songs can't be over 120 seconds to be played in this fashion.
What I'm asking is this: would anyone mind if I were to both trim the songs slightly, in the case of those which run long for the time limit (including some of my favorite files, like Beyond the Earth), and make a smaller, more condensed pack of the set, since all the machine accepts are a simfile and .ogg music track (no graphics)?

If anyone does object, just say so and I'll leave out your files/stop the project from being posted online (sorry, I'm making these for my own use one way or another, just to play them).

And for the record: Mei has an awesome chart, and if it weren't for that goddamn slowdown, I think I might have passed a 10 today.

I don't mind.

This might have interesting implications for the decision I previously made to not cut files for DistorteD. :/

I actually remember hearing this before at TGL but I thought it was a Stepmania thing, not ITG2. I'm impressed they implemented it... I'd have thought they'd be legality issues and such. I guess the OGG is so they don't have to pay for an MP3 licence? It's pretty cool anyway.

Well, again, I'm only making a stripped-down version of the original pack to fit on a flash drive. On the other hand, if anyone has pre-cut versions that they could contribute for DistorteD, I'd appreciate them in the long haul.

Also, something that was learned earlier today: ITG machines don't read .dwi files.

(edit: Yeah, the .ogg is so as to keep it from breaking licensing laws on the .mp3 format. Nothing special, given that ITG machines already run off .oggs anyway. It's really, really fun to play with. Give it a shot if your local arcade upgrades.)

I think it's a good idea, and if I have time I'd like to make one myself for DistorteD and offer it as an additional pack.

Let me know if you need any help for this one, otherwise in any case I'd love it if I could get it off you when you're done and put it up on Pker's tracker and the VJAMix website.

I might even have a shot at cutting my own stuff from HS (such as Beyond the Earth) if I have time.

Looks like the >2min songs are:

80's Capsule (2:01)
Beyond the Earth (2:04)
CaptivAte ~Jouka~ (2:13)
Double Thrash (2:05)
Empty of The Sky (2:05)
I am (2:03)
Ixion (2:05)
Little Little Princess (2:02)
Love Magic (2:03)
Ore wa Beatmania (2:03)
Rakuen (2:00.13 - is that over?)
Scripted Connection (2:03)
Under the Sky (2:03)
Votum Stellarum (2:05)
We Are Diskko (2:02)
Xepher (2:03)

Looks like most would be solvable by just trimming the ending fadeout or whatever, although CaptivAte might take a bit of extra doing.

You might want to use the Supernova cut of Xepher as part of the beginning is cut off. Also, this would give those with Supernova some edit steps to add. :3

Eh, they can do their own. I'm only going to cut 4 seconds off it.

Does ITG2 display the author of the chart for edits?

Sadly, no. And it's a little weak in terms of display period, on some things. Mei displayed as a broken Smiley logo while the song loaded.

Dunno about Rakuen, but I'm wondering if some of the files you're looking at are the IIDX cuts, and not VJAMix: my Beyond the Earth on my flashdrive (from the pack) was 2 minutes exactly. (I recommend cutting to 1:59 if possible, in fact: oddly enough, BtE doesn't run on the machine, giving me the error "This song is 120 seconds. The limit is 120 seconds.")

It must be something to do with steps, then. The BTE I have here shows up as 2:04 in Winamp and SM4 and everywhere.

I'm working on cutting down the ones that need it. So far the only one that actually lost anything was Captivate (first 7 measures or so) so it'd probably be better if TR okays my mangle-job before anything is done with it.

Ixion might need a slight reduction too, unless your machine sees it as being slightly shorter than it is.

Here's what I've done so far

http://rapidshare.de/files/36969022/VJAMix...r_ITG2.zip.html

Includes all the ones I mentioned before trimmed to <2:00 except Ixion, Little Little Princess, Under the Sky and Votum Stellarum which are going to need a bit more than just taking a few seconds off the end (I don't have time to fix them right now since when you start cutting stuff from the start you have to resync it as well etc) I'll have a look at that later, but it'd help if you could check for me how many seconds your ITG2 machine actually says they are. Thanks.

I also put in all the secret songs with proper names instead of zUnlockA or whatever since obviously keeping them that way is pointless for ITG2 custom songs.

I'm guessing you did the rest already, but if you could organise them the same as those ones (all files deleted from folder except SM and OGG, #CREDIT line changed to just show stepmaker's name, #BANNER #BACKGROUND #LYRICSPATH #CDTITLE and #BGCHANGES fields removed or blanked) that'd be awesome.

I think the Mei glitch you described was it trying to interpret the Japanese character in its name, I might also have to just replace all those names with the romanisations.

Oh, I also boosted the volume a little on Photongenic and changed the MP3 for Xepher to the OST one since the one I had there was weird. Also, the version of Beyond the Earth in there is my newer version with better sync.

The only file with significant changes is CaptivAte, which has 7 measures cut from the start as mentioned before.

Unfortunately, the downside to this is that I can only check this sort of thing on weekends now: the trip to the local ITG2 cabs is a little long for me to be making before class starts at about 3, and unless I want to get up at about 6 AM and head out there, I'll have to wait until Saturday. Until then, best I can do is test it on ITG PC or something.

Sorry about that bit. Forgot to mention it earlier.

My local arcade will be upgrading today to R21, so I'll grab this for sure and use them. =) I also put FAXX and L.E.F. from Supernova on to try out. This will be awesome.

Here is the full list of restrictions to R21:
- Ogg files only
- 120 second maximum length
- No Banners/Backgrounds
- No .dwi files
- No DWI code headers
- No Ogg files over 5MB
- Maximum 50 files allowed on USB.

Well that blows :/

We'll just have to provide everything and let the players decide.

Yeah, so ITG2 machines don't like Japanese characters, so any songs with them should be taken out. Guess that's a restriction.

I've downloaded the file, and I'll put about a half dozen or so on for now. I'm curious how my FA on some songs will be, since I've been playing harder stuff lately and I've been itching to play Green Eyes on good pads tongue.gif

Green Eyes isn't in that archive, but you should be able to convert it yourself easily enough...

How infinitely awesome (like pornography, not this dresser.. which is dull and boring) r21 is has really started to hit me. It's a real shame that the broken-ass ITG2 at the local theater will prolly never be upgraded.. and I don't think the USB works, anyhow.

Well, in the meantime, anyone know a good program for converting MP3s to OGG?

I'm looking for a better one (because this has the most annoying nag feature EVER), but this one does work well.

I've been using Audacity.

R21 isn't all peachy with it's various restrictions, and lack of score keeping. It's nice, but not a replacement to the ITG1/2 songs and future versions.

how does one find out whether or not your local machine is r21? and if it is, how does one boot the songs from the drive? im sorry but i never figured out how to do it with a hacked machine since UMD is like an hour away from here :<

Put some coins in. On the "Press Start" screen with the ITG2 logo, check the bottom (left?) corner. You'll see something marked "r(number)".

As for the drive bit: stick an .ogg file and a .sm file in a folder under "Songs" on your flash drive (if you lack ITG2 data on the drive, make the following folder: "(drive letter):\In The Groove 2\Songs\"), and when it asks you to insert your card, do so. It'll then load your files up as (using my card's name as an example) "Syrg's Songs" in a similar fashion to how ITG1/2 songs have their own sort on the menu.
