Solid State Squad Forums _ Last Message _ Migration Complete

Posted by: Himiko Jun 12 2009, 09:16 AM

Yes, we're back. I've set up a new server, re-migrated the forums (from the VJA database, in the state we left it on June 5th) and I've redone most of the configuration changes that I originally made before our previous server had its unfortunate accident. If I've forgotten anything, let me know - but otherwise, let's just move on and pretend the last week never happened. Because as far as this forum is concerned, it didn't! I apologise again for any inconvenience the extended downtime or two days' worth of lost posts may have caused and let's all hope nothing like this ever happens again.

I did the migration myself this time (if someone would like to pay me $60 they are more than welcome!) and even managed to preserve our Unicode too. However, due to a hilarious mistake made during the migration process that I didn't actually realise had happened until I was already halfway through configuring the new forum, all instances of the string "latin" throughout the forums were inadvertently changed to "utf8" (yes, even poor Platinumhawke had been forcibly renamed to Putf8umhawke). I fixed up PH's name and went through editing a few of the changed posts then realised it would take forever and left it alone for now. So if you see an old post referring to "utf8 beats" or something then that is why.

A quick refresher of the main rules, as before:

Beyond that, just use your common sense (if you wouldn't have done it on VJA, don't do it here either) and carry on!

I can't help but feel like all this has happened before.

Must be a glitch in the Matrix.

Also, I've re-enabled the data that appears under your name (DJ Battle This User, etc), with just a basic "View User Page" placeholder until we get sig images working again. Note that you will need to update the field in your profile with your new S3 user ID before it will show up (I wiped the contents of those fields for everyone because they were pointing to the old VJA/PNN IDs, which are different). You can leave the Pop'n one alone for now as it won't do anything until the Pop'n Division is up.

# Don't be a jerk. Don't be horribly obnoxious, obsessive or annoying. Please refrain from randomly attacking or trolling other people for no reason. Don't cause or import drama.

I don't have to take orders from no bitch

Lots of drama last week. Thankfully, you managed to get us back to back where we were, (sans the testing server). The thing is, I don't even know if and where I should post the elaborate reply on people's issues during the beta test that I was preparing. When I was ready to hit 'post' the servers were already resting over the clouds.

And at least the mafia game hadn't started yet haha. But thanks for all the hard work getting it set up again, Xythar. biggrin.gif

Good to see things are back up and working again. I kept trying to access the forums and just kept seeing the "updates" about the servers being whacked, hehe.

Is Memorymani working for this site? I don't mind inputting my scores in by hand, but I'm laaaaaaaaaaaaaazy.

Posted by: Xythar Jun 13 2009, 05:38 PM

I don't think it is yet, unfortunately. I don't see why it wouldn't since all the APIs and stuff are still in place but apparently it does not (I haven't tested it myself)

Also after all this time I still have no idea how to pronounce your name.

Hooray, thanks again to everyone who made this happen again :>

Now we should be official moved into S3. The first move was 2 EZ 4 U so hackers took down the host to make it more challenging
Now that we have the requisite complications out of the way, everyone back to your usual business! emot-colbert.gif

The site was all basically migrated over and development will now continue with other people at the helm.

you know guys you're allowed to enter your S3 IIDX user number in your profile anytime

it's not just an exclusive feature reserved for Grey and I btns.gif

All zero of my score wants to battle you!

EDIT: Oh, the import works now! Sweet, though I imagine out of the 1463 scores I have, 1000 of them could be updated. sad.gif

Also, is it supposed to take 60 seconds of a locked up browser for the View User page to load when you have that many scores? I don't remember it taking so long before. (PS This is on IE6 at work so it might just be that)

Posted by: Faker13 Jun 17 2009, 01:32 PM

yeah view user takes forever for me also, but it didnt on 3.0

Posted by: Mazrim Jun 17 2009, 02:28 PM

I'm not talking about 3.0...that was a completely different system. In 4.0 on VJA I don't remember it taking so long to load my user page.

Posted by: Xythar Jun 17 2009, 04:13 PM

I just clicked your page then and it only took a few seconds in Firefox 3...

Posted by: Faker13 Jun 17 2009, 04:59 PM

im using IE and view user takes forever if they have all scores

Posted by: Xythar Jun 17 2009, 06:32 PM

Yeah I just tested on IE and it does take considerably longer (up to 30 seconds compared to like, 2 seconds in Firefox and Chrome). It might be an issue with the Javascript but honestly I don't understand how that Javascript works at all so I'm not going to mess with it anytime soon.

There's an obvious alternate solution though btns.gif

Posted by: Mazrim Jun 18 2009, 09:35 AM

Yeah, don't worry about it. I use Firefox at home and it's not very important to make it work on IE6 or whatever.
