Project Diva 2 is a good sequel. They've taken most of the annoying things about the first game and fixed them, even minor stuff like the game not remembering your note sound setting (now you just set it to Off once and it stays that way!!) and not being able to go straight from free play to module select without going back to the main menu. (Which is especially important this time seeing how there's a bunch of songs by the other vocaloids and if you don't change the character accordingly you're going to get some weird results). There are also a few duet songs although I only have Magnet unlocked so far. You can set the characters in those independently, I was amused after I tried setting it to Miku with Miku and it actually worked. The videos are all a lot more elaborate and there's a pretty big (400+ MB) data install that improves the load times a lot from the original game, although they're much better either way.

It's also a hell of a lot harder, which is nice. Scale goes up to 9 stars now and a lot of the 4-5 star stuff from the first game has been reclassified down to like 3-4. The note speed seems faster overall and it can actually be pretty hard to read the notes in time on the faster songs (which is kind of the opposite of the first game where you could see everything coming but it could be hard to figure out the rhythm from it) which is going to take some getting used to. There's a new Extreme difficulty you get by clearing songs on Hard, I got it for Magnet and PoPiPo but they were both 8s and I failed. Hope you like jackhammers. They also added in hold notes (which work the same as IIDX and KBM in that letting go of the note counts as another note) and 'double' notes where you have to hit the face button and the same direction on the d-pad at the same time (I thought there'd also be single d-pad notes but I haven't seen any).

You now get points for clearing songs and can use those to buy modules from a shop and 'assist items' and junk. The Miku Room thing seems to have been revamped into some kind of pseudo tamagotchi junk but I don't much care about it.

This is probably the most :moogy: post I have ever made but I honestly think you should buy this game if you like PSP music games and can at least tolerate Miku Hatsune. It is a good music game in its own right.

edit: although I'd recommend knowing katakana

This game looks like it might be cool if Billy Herrington were a playable character

Yeah, the Corolla is, uh, not really the type of car I would consider to be marketed to young people

I could see them tying this into their Scion brand maybe or something (maybe), but this is just retarded

I'd be wondering more how many people who know about Hatsune Miku can even afford a car

and so I guess it's officially "Hatsune Miku" in english now? dammit, now I have a bunch of stepfiles to update
