Pretty sure you can emulate one of the Salamander 2 ports and it'll count. The game itself is a bit twitchy in some combinations of MAME and computer specs.

Anyway, this game is a fair bit easier than the previous two weeks. Here's a few things I've picked up from experience.
-Stage 1's a milk fest. Use the beam laser on the brain. Should be able to get 20-25k by the time it retreats off screen. Repeat that again with the boss. The "2nd" forms worms can be milked for a bit -- the boss times out after 6 or 7 lunges. Only takes 3 to actually kill it with the options lined up with the laser shot.
-Stage 2 fire columns can be taken out for a little score, including the boss, but it's not worth trying to milk at all. The heads can be damaged while they're retracted so line up the options. Stage itself is a bit hard to score on, and I don't think the trade off of shooting options to take out the planetoids is worth it. Also vert stages seem more sluggish than the hori ones. Also best stage music in the game.
-Stage 3 boss you can safely milk the regenerating walls and take out the popcorns with a spread out set of options. I think you can hit the second extend (200k) here if you're patient. 2nd form is just a spin around CCW and kiting it, mostly like the first boss from Lifeforce.
-Stage 4 boss is a pain in the ass. Hide in the upper right corner while it unfurls it's arms. They'll miss, you'll be in the segment with the gap. Support fighters come in from the right and fire a spread shot. Option shooting doesn't seem to do overly much damage.

Need to practice the other few stages to get the feel for them down.

Intentionally not getting power-ups is like the ultimate shooting game trope

I honestly think that Ikeda eventually realized there was no point to putting power ups in his games if nobody was not going to pick them up (except in Mushi Arrange which I wouldn't really count), which is why no Cave game since DFK (or wait, Deathsmiles?) has had them.

I thought that would be you playing it. :3
Shinji Hosoe's remix of that song is godly. Love it so much.

Edit: Also, have a superplay. You'll need to set an auto-fire to tech the stage 1 midboss, but it's worth 100k if you can do it. I typically move straight down from just where the brain spawns and let both options rest on it's tail. Stage 4 tech is a bit harder and not readily apparent in the superplay. Take out the first two ships without destroying either of their two tail sections -- trailing an option inside usually works, or just auto-fire missiles. This will spawn a gold ship. Destroy it in order of top tail, engine, then ship before it leaves the screen for the 100k tech.
Stage 3 boss has potential for a lot of auto-fire milking, but seems exceptionally tricky to set up properly. I think you can just hit one of the two spawner pods for a decent amount of points.

Firing off all your options before an item wave seems to drop more full options being spawned as well. You can get a full set of 4 by the first boss.

Everything else is shit crazy.

Re-Edit: Using the 2P side has some supposed effect on the game by reducing the rank a bit.

Saidaioujou is really difficult. They certainly made up for the lack of a loop.

Didn't have much time either myself, as I only played 2 credits worth and tossed a score up. I'm a bit disappointed I missed my top half goal after last weeks efforts with Salamander 2.

For the last week vote Mystic Square.

Edit: Bemani joke related titles make for bad shumps. :| Here's SSS and the emulator to play it in.
