Sometimes I mix up the top and bottom row, mainly when I'm first starting in the day. It's pretty much gone if I'm playing lots of harder songs for awhile, but even then if anything there are occasions where I want to hit some random nonexistant button somewhere in the top whenever It's Time To Hit The Red Button. It's most likely because of playing so much IIDX and never popn ever until yesterday, since the middle row is a top key in IIDX.

Has anyone had any problems like this switching or am I the only one?

And random seems to be impossible sometimes. 156789 chords anyone?

I had a bit of that right at the start. But if you drill it into yourself that small = top row and large = bottom row, it goes away.

And yeah, if you're playing on the ASC then (s)random will naturally give you impossible chords fairly regularly (unless you play easier songs with less complex chords or harder songs that are mostly scaling like Classic 4). That's why people don't usually use random on PnM, I guess.

Don't use Random or S-Random on pop'n unless you're bored with a notechart.

Or the notechat is Neo Aco's hyper.

I still hit the wrong buttons when selecting/changing modes/backing out for some reason.

haHA, i laugh at you oddity, as you have obviously already won IIDX yet have trouble with Pop'n. i'll just bask in my betterness.

but seriously, welcome to the pop'n world, im surprised it took you so long... and judging by your iidx ability, it'll probably take you like a week to win pop'n too.... i guess dont feel ashamed to try the easier stuff and work your way up, you don't have to start on the hard songs.

http://popnnavy.com/viewsong.php?songid=ne...&highlight=WERT ahem

but rly tho That song is just easy for timing. Though that's my only score here I don't have nearly that close on any other song near that difficulty. I'm not all that great at passing. That 37 on hyper is way too crazy. It's so long and complicated and tiring that I give up at least one time every time I play it near the end then resume play. You pretty much have to keep your hands spread wide open the whole time you play hard songs on this game. I wonder how I'd fare on a small popn controller. It's probably way easier, I'd imagine, especially for IIDX people.

it took me less than a year to get to the point where i was getting #1 on a lot of the harder 40+s on pnn, and i'm not even as close to being as good as you at iidx. give it a week or two and i'm sure you'll have no problem working out those little kinks and be able to work the buttons without even thinking.

ps. i've been playing iidx semi casually at arcades for about 3 or 4 years, and popn i started playing a little less casually at arcades about a year and a half ago

Random is not as easy to use in Pop'n as it is in IIDX. It makes familiar notecharts less boring and it is good for practise once you are familiar with the big controller so it serves a purpose but it won't be useful until you are better.

The reason why I used Random for the Nebuta 100K for example, is not because it made it easier, but just because I consider it to be a better accomplishment than doing it without. There are some songs that are simplified with Random but for the most part it makes them harder. Opposite from IIDX.

And welcome to Pop'n.

My problem is that I'm too poor to afford anything but a small controller... and I'm already starting to form the same habitual playing of not moving hands at all like I did with IIDX. :(

Yeah, I also get the top and bottom rows mixed up ALL the time. :(

But...

I can't get nearly as high scores as you already, Oddity. Not fair.

It's to be expected with a small controller.

With an ASC there's no possible way to hit some combinations without bringing your left hand and right hand over to each side, so it forces you to do so. So I can imagine the small controller relying a lot more on IIDX mimic if someone is coming from that field as opposed to an ASC which retains not as much of the reliance (it's still there, like when lots of stuff is going on one side and the opposite hand isn't 100% needed).

I don't know how well that small controller times so I can't comment on that subject.

Welcome to the dead board.

Some year I'll start playing Popn again.

The easy solution to top/bottom mix-ups: BEAT POP
Seriously, I only play PnM really occasionally when I'm bored in an arcade that has it, and I would never play without the familiar white and blue bars falling down.

You guys are crazy, beat pop is meant to make the game harder >_<

Danir does the same thing and it just hurts my brain. I can't play like that.

I found beat pop by accident
have never looked back again
then again i play on an arcade stick, so when I get an ASC I might think differently.

Oh that is the truth, if i've been playing pop'n for awhile for the first few songs I seem to want to strech my arms out and hit absoulty nothing because i'm so used to things being so far apart. I try my best to fight the urge but usually my hand hits the right side of the ASC a lot.
