I really don't know much about Pop'n, so I've got a question for those of you who do know the game.

What's the highest number of buttons a Pop'n chart will have the player hit at once?

I know there are 9 buttons available, but would the game ever throw all 9 buttons at you at once or is there perhaps a max number of buttons to hit at a time, similar to how GH only calls for 3 buttons? Thanks in advance for the help.

6 is usually the max

are there any charts with 7-note chords? I don't think it goes any further than that

Legitimately speaking, pop'n charts, as they're designed, will only go up 6 buttons simultaneously. Anything more than that would otherwise require the player to use their elbows, which is typically not inherent to the design of pop'n music charts. In older pop'ns however, it wasn't uncommon to have "elbow hits" (such as a 159 chord), but they've more or less done away with those as of...pop'n 10?

On the other hand, while not simultaneous, there are charts with 7 or 8 note stagger chords, although those don't necessarily count as 6+ note chords or even elbow hits, as they're not simultaneous.

Not part of the main series, but in the spin-off game pop'n music Animelo 2, there were modifiers called Double and Triple, which, as the names suggest, either Double or Triple the number of notes in a chart. Using this option, you can easily turn a 3-note chord into a 9-note chord. The option was more or less designed so that two or three people can play at a time, but a lot of players used it to challenge themselves to nonstop 9-note chords on Animelo 2, as the majority of the songs were relatively easy.

The Double and Triple mods were exclusive to Animelo 2, which has never seen a CS release. In addition, the charts themselves do not have any 6+ note chords -- only when you Double or Triple the notecount.

tl;dr The highest number of buttons a pop'n chart will have the player hit at once is 6.

6 :<

Sometimes they're gay though like in Hamo-Rock EX, and if you suck then that chart sucks.

Pyramid EX has an 8-note stagger chord but I think 3 of the notes are lead-in, so the other 5 are all together.
