I'm terribly happy to announce the release of VJ Army 3.0.
With nearly 30 documented new features, fixes, and other random things thrown in, this release folds in a lot of changes you may have seen on the site in the last two weeks and a few other features that have been in growth for over six months. The major ones to look for are: - New javascript dropdowns on session modes for selecting style and difficulty. - A massively overhauled User CP, now actually usable and divided into tabs. - Privacy settings, allowing you to default your scores to private, or hide all portions of the site involving other users. - New controls for selecting friends. - Lots of speedups and client-side note checks for session modes. - Better HTML compliance. - Very preliminary support to let your friends ignore whether or not your scores are private. - And much more! The full changelog is here: http://vjarmy.com/wiki/index.php/VJA:Version_History#3.0 I should give one warning: when I say "very preliminary support" for the friends bypass, I mean just that - it's a flag in the database and not actually implemented anywhere yet. It will be in the next 24 hours, but if you try it now, it's not going to work. I also know that RED and US still have note and course data problems, and they will also be fixed in the coming days as all my personal feature programming requirements are out of the way. Hope you guys like it, and as always, let us know about any bugs you hit. -------------------- Make rigorous observations, and be prepared to cite your sources.

All that can really be said to this (or at least that I can think of): Fucking awesome job.
Now I need to go play some more so I can enter scores into this new hotness of a site. |

Why stop at 3.0? Friends/rival stuff on viewuser and usercp has been rewritten to use gimmicky AJAX. No more page reloads for such mundane things!
I tested it in Safari, Webkit, Firefox 1.5, Opera 8.5, and IE6 so I'm hoping to god I didn't introduce any fresh bugs. If you're having trouble, reload a bunch since there are quite a few js changes (and close/quit your browser and reopen too). If you still have problems commence complaining. |

Out of curiosity, why does the preferences saving log you out every time? It wasn't all that bad when the logout was bugged, but it's a bit annoying, especially since there are 4 different preferences panels this time (and you get logged out after changing any of them).

You can actually edit every tab and then save and it will catch all the changes at once.
The logout requirement is somewhat vestigial and may be removed. I suppose I could actually move almost every pref except the ones dealing directly with password/djname over to asynchronous updating and remove the need for form submission altogether. |

Wow, VJA 3.0 so fast.
I guess that when coming out with new version updates like these, it just proves just how efficient and hardworking the VJ Army team is. Quite surprising indeed ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

- Very preliminary support to let your friends ignore whether or not your scores are private. This makes me sad, but it's your website. Otherwise, great work guys. -------------------- ![]() ![]() QUOTE(darkmage @ Feb 26 2006, 12:55 AM) lets all enjoy pressing buttons, regardless of whether or not we may be good at it. and lets press buttons to maytag repairman and other such classic tunes. |

This makes me sad, but it's your website. Otherwise, great work guys. Wait wait wait. Why does this make you sad? It's an option. If you don't want your friends to see your private scores, you don't have to check the box that enables it. -------------------- Make rigorous observations, and be prepared to cite your sources.

I think he figures that with the option there, more people will make their scores private in order to close themselves off into their own communities.
I can see the point, although I don't know if it'll happen. -------------------- ![]() |

Xythar nailed it exactly. We'll just have to wait and see how much impact it has though, it might not end up being so bad.

All these updates easily keep VJ Army as the best scoretracker on the net. Awesome work Remy, Rura. I always appreciate it. =)

Brilliant. I share blah's concern about the ability to let your friends see your private scores, but it really doesn't bother me too much. If a large number of people start privatizing their scores and forming little cliques, then I'll start worrying about it. I'd like VJA to remain as an overall scoreboard, without a lot of little cliques forming.
