One thing Oni used to do a lot was take other people's personal, private lifestyles/information and use them as fodder for jokes on the forum for all to read. And also frequently calling other people offensive words like sperg. And this went on for many years.

He also hacked my stream account once on a stream, turning me off for years of visiting any other Bemani-related streams at all. (I also had to close down my livejournal back in 2011 because of him as well.)

I had my own reasons to not particularly like the guy, especially from dealing with him while I was "in charge" here.

That said, nothing even remotely compares to the things Krystal brought up, almost none of which I was aware of until now. I had seen some of his more-recent hateful rants on here, but some of the stuff mentioned is beyond the pale.

So, I'll just pay my generic respects. I still have a tiny bit of empathy for anyone who has to face their mortality so young.

I knew she was annoyed with Oni at least a year or so before he died, but he just wrote it off.

Jesus Christ.

He was a jerk sometimes yeah but he just really never had a chance in life.

It seemed like everything was against him and he just wanted a little refuge in his video games and drug use. He was not good at interacting with people... his parents coddled him and he never fit in. He had a debilitating condition (cystic fibrosis) and it required a lot of care to manage.

I'm not saying that I condone his actions, just that I'm able to look at them from a compassionate point of view. We would skype sometimes and joke about dumb stuff... he always made me laugh with his outrageous remarks and inappropriate jokes; that's kinda something I liked about him.

He had medical marijuana and painkillers (with legitimate reason). But at one point he switched from T3 to Dilaudid and started injecting opioids(opiates?). If I had to guess, he overdosed.

It's a sad fact but this is now probably the fourth or fifth person in my life to die from an opiate/opioid problem.

I'm completely taken aback. This is totally unfair. Yes he could have taken a different route but every force in his life directed him back to the same habits. It scared me a lot to think that if one or two things in my life were different, I could be in the very same position. I am successful and healthy today but I don't see myself being that far away from him in terms of the way our minds worked.

I really just want to hold the motherfucker and tell him that I liked him just the way he was, despite what anybody else says. He really had nobody or nothing to turn to. If I feel like I could have prevented this in any way I just feel terrible.

Belated reply with five years to think on this, but whatever.

I can't really say much since I personally didn't know him, but I felt that the IIDX community got a really bad reputation in the western scene for being unwelcoming was hugely because of him.

Onipa was to IIDX what 2000s-era Kaze was to pop'n and Arch0wl was to DDR; insufferable. And yet somehow avoided getting crapped on to the same amount as the other two people I mentioned back in the day.

Him having mental issues does not in any way excuse the loads and loads of crap Onipa did. He utterly ruined the U.S. IIDX community for me and many others, the effects of which can still be felt to this very day.
