If the table vibrating is causing the noise play on the ground or something, if it's the controller itself drape a towel over the keys and see if that works

It's kind of hard to play with that particular variation of towel mode :S

Maybe they're just pissed off because you don't get to bed quick enough for them to get off to.

nope but I've received two formal warnings already (first time I thought it was the bass so I turned it off after that) so I'm on pretty thin ice

Why bother playing IIDX after 10pm anyway?

I've had mostly awesome neighbors. The people above me have more people in their apartment than they're supposed to have (like, 7 people in a 2 bedroom apartment) so they never say anything (also 4 of them don't speak english anyway) and I'm friends with the guy that lives next door and he doesn't really care what we do. And I have a stairwell on the other side.

Of course, my last upstairs neighbor had a girlfriend who would stomp around while yelling constantly. Earned her the nickname Dragon. He stayed at home all day because he broke his back and ended up suing whatever and getting a huge settlement so he never left home but then one day he got really drunk and ended up tearing the sink off of his bathroom wall and that flooded his bathroom and that seeped into our hallway and so he was evicted for that.

Fun times.

i wish i knew how that shit worked. does noone have to investigate the notices?

How can you stop making a noise you dont even know you're making.

What if its someone complaining about someone else entirely in the building, and they're telling the LL its you because they're stupid.

maybe put up a sign asking to talk to whoever it is so that you can work it out peacefully?

http://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/info.cfm?top=46&pg=675 says, "The best way to deal with noisy neighbours is to approach them and work together on a solution to settle the problem. Sometimes neighbours are not aware that they are making unreasonable noise, or that they are disturbing you. Often talking to them can lead to changes that will benefit you both."

Which is pretty much common sense, really. Seems to me you've got pretty anal neighbours, definitely try and talk with them and/or ask for an environmental noise survey from the council.

That's a guideline, most landlords aren't going to waste time suggesting something like that.

My next door neighbour in our complex is a loud, perma-drunk Irish guy who likes to swear at the top of his lungs between 11pm and 2am while listening to Johnny Cash. He tries to start fights with his friends over stupid shit like "You tried to take my can of beer". I'm pretty sure he threw a glass bottle at his dog last night. He's had numerous complaints against him and even the police over but somehow he hasn't even been evicted. I don't understand it, but I assume it's a lazy landlord.

Also Xythar, if the construction of your place is old or poor, the floor joists might actually transfer sound and vibration laterally as well as down to the floor below. If they live beside you it's possible they can feel you playing IIDX if the walls and joists are bad enough.

Sounds like both of the people living above me. How hard is it to not stomp, or at the very least not walk like you are 400 pounds?
