I'm curious to know what people here think are the best songs in Bemani that you can use to "sell" the Bemani series as a whole to people - to convince them that there is decent music in there and to give the games a shot. The target audience here would be your average person who listens to whatever is in the Billboard Top 100 and could only stand to play Rock Band. What songs would make them go "hey, that's not bad" or "that's a catchy song"?

(These songs do exist by the way, and in case you didn't know, the top 40 these days has more "techno" sounding music then you'd think)

Songs that I think would appeal to your hypothetical top-100 listener

IIDX: Heaven Above, Blue Rain, Harmony and Lovely, Evergreen
GFDM: Assuming they don't mind Japanese, the most popular songs for newcomers seems to be catch J-Rock songs like Taisetsu na Mono, and if they don't mind jazz I think things like MU-DAI would probably be something they would take interest in

Fake list

IIDX: Cloudy Music, Time to Air, Steel Needle, Cosmic Raise, I'm Screaming Love (mostly for the video)
GFDM: Mr. Moon, O Jiya, Model DD3
Pop'n: Nursery

Good topic. For just the songs:

IIDX:
Watch Out!!
madrugada
So Real
Queen's Tragedy

Probably not going to go over well:

Himiko
Fascination Maxx
Chocolate Dancing
I'm Screaming Love

All pretty good lists, wish I could make one but honestly I was all ANIME back than and stuff like Love love sugar got me into pop'n, YESTERDAY into IIDX (that might work though).

Dragon Blade

Or at least, those were the only KOs my one friend played when I tried to get him to play Guitar Freaks.

Oh yeah, that reminds me of Toccata. Everyone likes Toccata.

Blood and Thunder's in one of the GH games, so that could have some appeal?

necro

Obvious choices would be Final Countdown, Deadline, Fly Away, etc but since Konami is so massively tight fisted these days...

Elisha
Bounce Bounce Bounce
Go Berzerk
BRAINSTORM
Star Field
Watch Out or Watch Out pt 2
Infinite Cave
evergreen, maybe, but it's not in-your-face enough

madrugada is a great song but it would probably be deemed "too gay", sorry

Hot and Dangerous scratching. Makes "Big." by FullMetal Tortoise look like something Gosaku would play.

BRAINSTORM

I agree with this but I tend to find that hardcore that has pitched-up voice samples are often kind of off-putting to people who aren't familiar with the genre

this

i played IIDX at a party in which a few people tried beginner mode and liked it
and when I played BRAINSTORM they were like "wow this sucks"

strangely enough SHIFT was played the most
