Konami filed a trademark for something called Beatstream.

It's a touchscreen-based game similar to Technika with a focus on touhou remixes and vocaloid songs.

Edit: Similar in presentation to Technika is what I meant. The gameplay is indeed best described as:

It's like playing Reflec Beat through a kaleidoscope. It sucks. I hope it gets cancelled.

Is this what all rhythm gaming is now?

IIDX and DDR are the only Bemani series as far as I know that aren't filled with Vocaloid songs now.

Also run-of-the-mill J-core.

IIDX and DDR are too classy to have touhou and vocaloid songs, IIDX has a lot of J-Core though which is the 2nd cousin of touhou/vocaloid songs.

VEGA basically sounds like a touhou remix (redalice wwwww) but it also has those cool vip-vip-voop noises and a quality overlay so I can't hate.

I actually don't mind J-Core or Vocaloid stuff as long as the composition is good, but the Hardcore Tano*C crew has been kinda bland overall lately IMO. Idk about touhou remixes I just never really got the appeal.

Ironically, I find some of the only songs in IIDX actually marked "J-Core" to be pretty enjoyable. (VEGA, Close the World)

I like VEGA but Close the world just feels really generic to me.

I listened to a sound voltex gst for this one remix of ongaku i really liked, there was one remix of the Stage 2 theme from embodiment of scarlet devil that was good (and had a hashtag in the name...) and all the other touhou remixes were abysmal.

The original SDVX stuff I heard was kinda dumb but legitimately more interesting than the recent hardcore stuff (leggendaria etc) they've put in IIDX, it's just that a lot of it feels like it's trying to mimic video game boss music songs like evans and adularia (I like adularia though). If they ever do a floor infection in iidx then I hope they port crack traxxxxxxxxxx just cuz that would own as a chart, as long as they keysound it.

Anyway beatstream sure is a thing that exists I guess.

That's not an overlay it's actually a video, it fooled me too initially. But yeah VEGA owns, top 5 song in tricoro. It also has a very fun stepchart in DDR.
