Since there is so much more hype now than there ever was with Pentavision's DJ MAX series, I think it'd be appropriate to give birth to a thread dedicated to all of them <3.

Discuss anything DJ MAX related here.

----------------------

So DJ MAX TRILOGY is on sale on Play-Asia, and seeing as how I was a REAAAAAAAAAAALLY big fan of the original PC version, I am definitely coppin' this.

ANYONE ELSE?

Oh nifty. I didn't know Trilogy was a port of the Portable versions for the PC. I might consider getting this now as I don't own a PSP

Trilogy has the same "two-key" mechanic as BS, so...

In the meantime, CE/BS is great, IMO.

WHAT. I'm going to have to buy this. I love the songs on DJ MAX Portable, so getting to play them on the PC instead of the PSP would be nice.

MY PIRACY RIGHTS

Also, I have no problems with USB Keys as a few programs I use at work require them and it's not a big hassle at all.

requiring usb dongles is fine and acceptable for $1000+ applications like CAD or whatever

not for $50 video games

it's overkill, but SUPER EFFECTIVE. Imagine if IIDX AC required a security dongle to run...

...doesn't it already?

IIRC modern arcade releases have security dongles...

Also, I'm totally fine with the USB dongle thing - I mean, if someone can't handle it, I'd like to think first that he 1) has a shitty computer without USB why is he complaining or 2) he's attempting to pirate the game, which is why the USB dongle exists in the first place. Piracy is frickin' huge, after all, and especially for those Asian countries where DJ Max released in (hi China!).

I mean, sure, it's a bitch if you lose the key, but I like to think that shouldn't matter if you're playing on a desktop. And if you're playing on a laptop, you can put it on a keyring or lanyard or something to make it harder to lose.

Do you think products like the Blizzard Authenticator are overkill as well?

No, those are optional and those are intended for personal account security. They are something that the consumer can choose to use to protect their account from getting hacked by thieves, as opposed to something that the publisher makes you do to make sure you're not pirating. Is it hard to see the difference?

This is analogous to having to show your receipt when leaving stores -- it's not going to stop people from stealing it, and it's just making it more inconvenient for the honest people out there.

Yup.

See also: if you buy DJMax Black Square and rip the iso off the disc, it won't work and will delete all of your other djmax game isos. If you play it off the UMD, it skips like a motherfucker. That means you want to get a cracked iso from some shady place on the internet in the end, anyway. Also BS is a buggy piece of shit that requires a 300MB patch to play more than 2 songs in 6 button arcade mode. Unfortunately the patch is kind of hard to find and breaks the way the game displays your multiplier for some reason.

I wonder what would happen if I renamed some other (legit) files to "DJMAX-WHATEVER-UMD-GANT.iso" and did that? "Oh, sorry about those files we deleted, we just assumed that they were illegal?"

I see the difference. I guess my thought on it was more about how many call the authenticator overkill because being smart on the internet and using virus scanners and whatnot should be good enough. I think it's appropriate, but yeah you're making more sense than I am. btns.gif
