Well, the new pop'n title was announced. Seems to have a stone concept going for it: http://p.eagate.573.jp/game/bemani/p/speci...jaepo_popn.html

Looks like they're radically altering the character art style for a select number of songs. I thought they learned their lesson with guitarfreaks/drummania XG3.

Hahaha apparently not, lol! It looks like this time....some of the characters (including the Mimi and Nyami) have been transformed into human form via the huge chunk of lapis lazuli crystal. I could be siriusly wrong though...just a theory.

Huh, just around the corner. Wonder if they'll go through with the visual style change, and if there will be butthurt... also pricing issues.

My arcade is considering upgrading to Sunny Park; should I tell them to just wait?

So I just started playing popn again like 3 weeks ago or so(few months of not really playing) and now this comes out. I've been mostly playing on an old Party or Fantasia with some Sunny Park thrown in. I have to say from the few times I tries this out today I am very disappointed with it. Not counting the price increase and the sometimes strangely altered characters...the lack of options is a killer! I can't play using Random/S-ran not even Mirror! WTF! Why did they remove those except for Battle mode? That's basically all I've been playing lately with the occasional standard chart thrown in.

At first I thought they might be hidden and you'd have to use paseli to use them but nope. Looking at the website brought that notion to a halt.

I don't think I'm going to be playing very much of this game at all.

Thank you for that! I'll have to try it the next time I play.

Also I'm not sure if it's me or something but the game feels slightly easier to score on. My first try at DDR ex and I raised my score by over 7k (77k->84k) and that's on an LCD machine which I don't usually do well on. I wasn't even playing well that day and was very tired. I had just played it a few days earlier on Fantasia (CRT) and I scored in the 70s range.

They changed the scoring formula so greats and goods are worth more, or something. Everyone's kind of mad about this one...

No more genres, polarizing art style, and an easier scoring system?

this game has it all

At least it has a better default songlist than Sunny Park did (the Elements Garden and dubstep TAG songs aside). Not like anyone talked about Sunny Park then either, though.

Wait, what? I thought that elaborate genre stuff was kind of a signature pop'n thing. Odd.

played some lapistoria and... in addition to those, you can't "unlock" EX charts in the traditional way; you need to build up AURA (play shit) to play EX charts (playing will not unlock it, you need to get aura again to play again)
the way it's going to work is kind of like IIDX phases, where the requirements will go lower over time and eventually they'll be unlocked by default
it's like they don't want you to play early...

They also pulled a SPADA/jubeat/first three REFLEC BEAT games and make you unlock all the hidden songs in Sunny Park if you didn't unlock them in that game. (And even then, you couldn't unlock them in the new game until a few days ago.)

I'm happy that Konami put in a decent amount of brand-new songs so far (30), and I like the new system music. That's all the good things I can say about the game.

Am I the only one sick of the Tsugidoka characters?
